Presentation

Turistica – the Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Primorska (UP FTŠ) is a tertiary sector education that offers integral and multi-disciplinary teaching and research for tourism with emphasis on the operation of tourist companies, destination management and mediation in the intercultural tourist environment.

We give our students the theoretical platform necessary for understanding today’s tourist business and acquaint them with good business practices and their direct effects on the current environment.    We are engaged in various projects and have a good cooperation with the related foreign and national faculties and universities. We take the necessary steps to integrate ourselves into a network of foreign and national tourist companies for the purpose of organising practical training.

Turistica’s vision of development is to maintain its leading role as the institution for education, scientific research and development & advisory services in the field of tourism, in Slovenia and in the wider neighbourhood. To attain this goal we make every effort to maintain the high quality of our pedagogical work (for which we are well-known), to implement up-to-date study curricula, to respect the local environment and to be responsible and good partners to businesses and other users of knowledge in the field of tourism.

Our pedagogical work is based on modern didactic methods.   Under the supervision of their teachers the students prepare and organise study projects and make the simulations of the tourism business. Students already have the opportunity to obtain practical experience in the course of their studies by practical work and working on site; they may also obtain a certificate awarding them the title of touristic informer or animator by additional training. In the course of their studies the students participate in tourist fairs and markets, professional excursions (home and abroad) and international study exchanges.

We at the Turistica UP FTŠ are among the first who introduced a Tutorial System. The teachers and students – Tutors help the undergraduate students to adapt to the university setting and to the way of teaching and learning within the integrated curriculum.  Since the academic year 2008/2009 we have introduced individual psychological-advisory services for students, and we are among the first who have such services.
The study curriculum in the new academic year will be conducted at the premises in Portorož, where the Head Office of the Faculty is also located, and at the study centre in Ljubljana, Sežana and in Slovenj Gradec. At the Education Centre in Sežana we conduct the Higher Professional Curriculum ‘Business Systems in Tourism’.
