Presentation

The Laboratory for Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (LGA) at the Higher Education Centre Sežana was established by the Council of the Higher Education Centre Sežana at its regular meeting on 12 September 2008. It had already come into being many months before by purchasing basic measuring equipment for taking absolute measurements of the geomagnetic field on a regular basis. In the last year, with this equipment and in cooperation with foreign geomagnetic observatories, the LGA carried out the first complete measurements of changes in the elements of the geomagnetic field in the Republic of Slovenia.

Last year, in cooperation with foreign and domestic research institutions, the LGA organised an International Scientific Conference entitled "Magnetism – Geomagnetism – Biomagnetism, MGB – 2008". This year the LGA continues with presentations, whose purpose is to inform the people of Slovenia and increase their knowledge about the geomagnetic field and its connection with other natural phenomena on Earth.  It still wishes to exchange and supplement its knowledge in this field in cooperation with similar institutions across the world and to become a member of Intermagnet, the world system of geomagnetic observatories.  The LGA’s long-term goal is to establish links between the solar astronomy on the one hand and the sciences relating to the ionosphere and the Earths’ magnetosphere and other applicable knowledge in the fields of     navigation, geology with mining, geotechnical science, archaeology, telecommunications, energy, seismology and meteorology, climatology and ecology, traffic, medicine and magnetobiology with biomagnetism on the other hand.
