Faculty of Computer and Information Science
The Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana is the main education and research institution in the field of computer and information science in Slovenia, which cooperates with various foreign universities and research institutes.
In the academic year 2009/10 the Faculty started with the implementation of its entirely modernised curricula, which is fully harmonised with the Bologna Declaration. They are extraordinary perspective study programmes which enable students to obtain knowledge about the latest technologies and, therefore, the student who is awarded a diploma is also receiving great opportunities for employment in places like companies specialising in computers, the electronics industry and big business systems and public administration. Today, it is difficult to imagine that any company could operate without the use of a computer. The demand for computer specialists is so great that most of our students get a job before they are awarded their diploma. From year to year more students are aware of this fact and so in the last few years the number of applications for enrolment in computer and information science programmes is greater than the number of available places.
This is why the Faculty of Computer and Information Science has been making every effort to increase the number of enrolment places, and in the academic year 2006/07, as a result of this effort, it opened an extra-mural Department in Sežana providing a higher professional curriculum (undergraduate professionally-oriented programmes) with the intention of enabling the students from the Primorska coastal region to enrol in greater numbers and in doing so to alleviate their problems because of the limited number of places at the University of Ljubljana. 79 students already enrolled at the Department’s inception. Currently there are 116 students who participate in lectures and exercises in the new rooms of the Business Innovation Centre, which has several lecture rooms with modern equipment and a computer classroom with 30 computers. This ensures optimum conditions for the students.
In the academic year 2009/10 the Department in Sežana enroled its 4th generation of students. In the first term the applicants were invited for 60 study places for full-time study and 15 study places for part-time study, and additionally 20 study places for Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship, whereby we primarily count on our relatives abroad. An application for enrolment may be filed by any person who has successfully completed any upper secondary four-year curriculum and been awarded a Matura, Vocational Matura or Final examination. Enrolment at the Department in Sežana will not be limited even if the number of applicants exceeds the number of available places.
You are invited to read the brochure (in Slovene) and learn about the study possibilities in more detail.
